Library Accessibility Guide: Assistive Technology

Available at the OC Library

Three ADA compliant computer workstations are available for students with disabilities. One video phone at a computer located upstairs.

One pod of library computers are equipped with Windows 11, which has a built-in screen reader called Narrator that can help users with visual impairments.

  • Turn Narrator on and off: Press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Enter 
  • Access Narrator settings: Press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + N 
  • Customize Narrator: Select Settings > Accessibility > Narrator 
  • Use Narrator in a document, email, or application: Move the cursor to the text you want Narrator to read, then press Windows key + Ctrl + Enter 
  • Use Narrator to navigate the Start menu: Press the Windows logo key to open the Start menu, then use the Tab key to navigate 
  • Use Narrator to navigate Settings: When you hear "Radio button," press the Tab key until you hear the option you want, then press Spacebar to select it 

Tech Bar staff is available to assist students with locating and using assistive technologies on the Library's computers.
